ABOUT US

Our History

Colegio La Salle Pereira opened its doors on February 7, 1939, when the Lasallian Brothers founded the institution with 279 students. Since that day, it began a journey that now spans more than 85 years of shaping generations with values, faith and academic excellence.

Over time, the school grew and celebrated important milestones such as its Silver Anniversary (1964), Golden Anniversary (1989) and Diamond Anniversary (2014), which confirmed its strength and standing in the city.

Today, as La Salle Pereira Bilingual School, the institution combines its Lasallian tradition with innovation and internationalization. With bilingual programs, research and technological innovation projects and a strong emphasis on integral and spiritual formation, the school remains an educational benchmark in the Coffee Region.

Here, each student finds not just a school, but a family that educates with values for life.

Saint John Baptist de La Salle

Saint John Baptist de La Salle was born in Reims, France, in 1651. From a young age he felt called to serve God and was ordained a priest. His life changed when he discovered the urgent need to educate poor children, who at that time had no access to school.

With a group of teachers, he founded a community dedicated to teaching and created new ways of educating: free schools, classes in the mother tongue (not only in Latin) and a close style of teaching based on respect and fraternity.

In 1680 he began what would later be known as the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, present today in more than 80 countries.

Saint John Baptist de La Salle was canonized in 1900 and in 1950 was proclaimed by the Church as Universal Patron of Educators.

His legacy lives on in every Lasallian school in the world, where we continue his mission: “To educate humanly and Christianly, especially those most in need.”
